Programming INTERREG IV 2008-2013. Five members of GIS 3SP (www.gis3sp.fr) are involved in this project: ISSeP, CTP, EMD, BRGM and INERIS.
The project began on July 1, 2008 and ended on June 30, 2013.

The aim of the GeDSeT cross-border project was to optimize sediment management options on a Euroregion scale, while taking into account the specific regulatory and societal requirements of each country, and based on an approach that :

  • considers all the components of sustainable development (environmental efficiency, economic feasibility, social acceptability);
  • takes into account all stages of the process (cleaning operations, transport, sorting, reuse, storage, etc.) in an integrated approach.

Carried out in collaboration with waterway managers in Wallonia (DGO3 and DGO2) and France (VNF), the GeDSeT project’s guiding principle was the development of a “what/if” decision-making tool simulating the consequences of a management choice. To feed the database on which the tool is built, research has been undertaken into the implementation of on-site measurement tools for refined chemical characterization of sediments, the transfer of contaminants from sediments in situ (at the bottom of the waterway) or out of the water, and certain treatment methods (mineralurgy and phytoremediation).

Two symposia dedicated to waterway sediment management were organized in May 2010 in Mons and in March 2013 in Douai as part of the GeDSeT project, which ended on June 30, 2013.
